Getting ready to massage your baby

Create a calm relaxed atmosphere. Ensure the room is warm with subdued lighting and prepare the area with a warm towel as babies quickly feel cold. You may choose to have soft music in the background. Exclude distractions such as the television or telephone.

For newborn infants you may choose to sit on the floor with your back supported against a wall and the baby on a padded area in front of you. Or you may choose to have the baby on your lap, or the bed or a table top, wherever baby is warm and secure and the area is safe.

Make eye contact and talk to your baby softly, hum or sing. Describing what you are doing and talk about the different parts of baby’s body as you massage them can help baby build a body image. If at any point your baby becomes upset, stop and try again later.

Warm the oil first by rubbing a little between your palms. Try to relax and gently massage with a soft gentle upward flowing movement, this is sufficient to stimulate baby’s circulation. All strokes should be toward the heart.

The Baby Calm Massage Oil is a favourite with mums. It is a pure blend of the essential oils rosehip, mandarin and lavender and has a beautiful fresh and calming scent. The oils are diluted in a special calendula and sunflower oil base having a lovely light texture that leaves your baby’s skin wonderfully soft.

To enjoy the benefits of baby massage we suggest that you Introduce a massage routine into your daily care, an ideal time is after bath and before bed. You will find that your baby begins to anticipate the massage and enjoy it.
