Infant nasal congestion is common and often occurs in baby's first couple of weeks, or later due to colds or allergies. As your baby’s immune system develops they are likely to have many colds in their first couple of years. Babies are termed "obligate nasal breathers", which means that they naturally breathe through their nose and when their tiny nasal passages are blocked they find breathing a problem, this is particularly an issue for newborns. In fact, the only time babies breathe naturally through their mouths is when they cry!
Infant nasal congestion can make feeding very difficult and stressful, upsetting your routine. The most likely reason for a baby crying when feeding is due to a blocked nose. It can be especially difficult when breastfeeding as a congested baby can have real problems latching on. Infant nasal congestion is a key cause of mothers having to give up breast feeding.
Paediatrician recommendation is to suction with the Baby Nose-Clear Nasal Aspirator to physically clean the nose so that baby can breathe more clearly and feed more easily.
You can use the Baby nose-clear nasal aspirator whenever you see visible mucus at the baby’s nose. It is ideal to do this before a feed and before bed.

Simply put the mouthpiece in your mouth and hold between your lips/teeth so that you have both hands free. Then hold the bulb end at the baby's nostril and target the visible snot. Then simply suck and the snot will collect in the sealed chamber behind the filter.
You can vary the level of suction and can see the snot collect hygienically behind the reusable filter.
You can do this one handed so that the other hand is free to secure and comfort the child. If your baby is particularly wriggly you can hold with baby's arms held as shown in the picture - it is even easier when they are sleepy!
If the snot is sticky or crusty it is great to suction after a bath. If the snot is still too dry you can use a couple of drops of saline to soften, leave for a few minutes and then suction to clear to clear the airway.

The Baby nose-clear infant nasal aspirator was invented by a mother of pre-term triplets and it is completely safe for newborns and still effective with toddlers. Her babies were suffering with infant nasal congestion and she was having real problems feeding them and getting them into any kind of routine. She tried the traditional bulb aspirators but didn't find them very effective, her babies didn't like them and they were difficult to clean. So, working with a doctor, she invented the Baby nose-clear nasal aspirator. It is much more effective and better tolerated than the cheaper "bulb style" aspirators.
Affectionately termed the little snot monster and snotsucker, the Baby nose-clear nasal aspirator receives tremendous positive feedback from mothers and health professionals.
