It’s just one of Jo Tantum’s Seven Secrets of Sleep, creating a workable and effective bedtime routine.
So what do we put in it?
No nasties such as parabens or sulphates, just a subtle blend of essential oils that will nourish your baby’s skin and send him off to bed in a completely relaxed state. Babies love to be touched and stroked and massaging your baby will also give you special time to enjoy each other’s company in the relaxed surroundings of his darkened and beautiful-smelling nursery.
How you should use it
Make sure your baby is warm and contented and that you have dried him well after his bath. Spray a small amount into your hands to warm the oil and gently massage his front keeping the oil away from his eyes and his mouth. Turn him over – if he’ll let you – and repeat over his back and legs. Talk quietly to him as you massage and let him enjoy the experience before you get him dressed, totally ready for bed.
10 steps to Sleepytime
- Go into the baby’s room and pop a few drops of Sleepytime Room Aroma into a bowl of warm water. It will fill the nursery with the smell of lavender and other calming essential oils.
- Get the bath ready with tepid water and either add Sleepytime Hair and Body Wash to the bathwater or use a tiny amount in your hands, then wash your baby from top to bottom.
- Carry your baby into a darkened nursery and lie him on a dry towel or changing mat (remember some changing mats can be really cold on baby’s bare skin) before massaging him with Sleepytime Organic Massage Oil.
- Dress your baby in PJ’ss and a sleeping bag depending on the temperature. Younger babies love being swaddled in a light natural material and our Sweet Pea Swaddle is perfect.
- Pick your baby up and give him a kiss and a cuddle.
- Talk softly, older babies will enjoy a story time and this will remain part of his bedtime routine for many years. Even young babies enjoy the rhythm of words.
- Give your baby his last feed of the day in the nursery.
- Wind, talking quietly and reassuringly.
- Lay him down, in his cot or Moses basket. Pat him gently.
- Say goodnight and come out of the room.

It is so gentle that it can be used from birth. However it is recommended that only oils without essential oils are used in the first few weeks.
